Part 1 of our series on the Cognitiv candidate experience.
If you have job-hunted recently, you know the drill. You spend ten-plus hours prepping, interviewing, and following up. And then you get nothing. Or worse, a four-sentence rejection email that tells you nothing about why. Candidates are being ghosted at every stage, and most companies treat their hiring process like a black box.
That is not okay.
At Cognitiv, we built our whole candidate experience around transparency: you will always know where you stand, what's next, and why. This piece will serve as our one-stop guide to interviewing at Cognitiv. Here, we're covering our hiring philosophy and what our recruiters actually do for you.
Our Hiring Philosophy
Hiring isn't just about filling a seat. Every person we add either raises the bar or lowers it, and we take that seriously. We look for people who reflect the six culture pillars that define how we move, grow, and win together (you will notice they drop the 'e,' just like we do):
- Responsiv — We move with velocity. We believe speed is a feature. We look for people with a heavy bias toward action — those who communicate proactively, drive clear communication across tools, and focus entirely on "what's next" rather than "who's to blame" when setbacks happen.
- Inventiv — We build, audit, and upgrade. We don't tolerate "the way things have always been done." We hire people who constructively challenge the status quo with data, optimize messy systems, and view failures simply as data points to help the whole team grow.
- Transformativ — We scale our capability. To future-proof our business, we must future-proof ourselves. We look for continuous learners who own their personal growth, possess a high degree of AI and technology fluency to amplify their output, and act as "knowledge multipliers" who pull others up as they grow.
- Collaborativ — We win as one team. Silos are where good ideas go to die. We hire people who operate with an org-first mindset, practice a "Yes, And" approach to cross-functional challenges, and refuse to gatekeep information. We take equal ownership of outcomes — celebrating wins together and owning setbacks as one unit.
- Inclusiv — We leverage cognitive diversity. Better perspective leads to better decisions. We seek out individuals who actively invite different viewpoints, intentionally create space for everyone to contribute regardless of title, and go out of their way to translate complex concepts so newcomers are never left behind.
- Festiv — We bring the energy. We are drawn to people who show up fully for team moments — All Hands, events, the wins big and small. High performance shouldn't come at the cost of high burnout, so we look for people who naturally build relationships, fiercely celebrate the success of others, and protect our team's resilience by keeping collective morale high.
Our Promise to Candidates: Every conversation in our interview process is intentionally designed to evaluate these core traits. But just as importantly, we value your time and energy. Whether we end up working together or parting ways, our goal is to ensure you leave every single interview feeling respected, challenged, and genuinely excited about our mission.
Your Recruiter Is Your Partner, Not a Gatekeeper
Let's get one thing straight: We care more about your candidate experience than most recruiters you'll meet. We overcommunicate on purpose.
Interviewing is one of the more nerve-wracking things a person can do professionally, and we want candidates to walk in feeling confident and prepared, not anxious and in the dark. That's the standard we hold our recruiting team to. Your recruiter isn't just scheduling calls, they're your guide through the entire process, someone in your corner who wants to see you succeed whether or not you end up joining us.
We hear regularly from candidates that this was the best hiring process they've been through. We don't think that's because we have some secret formula. We think it comes down to being empathetic, human, and treating people the way we'd want to be treated if the roles were reversed.
In Part 2, we will walk through exactly what to expect at each stage of the process, where we stand on AI in interviewing, and how to show up prepared. Stay tuned.
